DDT Site Report 2011

This year was a year of upheaval in my world, and in the eSword world. I moved cross country twice; three major versions of eSword were released; one new version of theWord was issued; and two new eSword websites were launched.

Through all of that upheaval, though, a tremendous amount of solid, evangelical material has been created for eSword and theWord. From a content perspective, 2011 was the best year ever for eSword and theWord since the creation of the two programs.

Interesting DDT.com Site Stats

OK, let’s start with some “bean counting.” (These site statistics come from Google Analytics.) We had 46,243 visits this year, from 15,632 “new” visitors. Our best month was November, when we had nearly 5,500 visits. This year, we had more “direct” visits - 18,040 - (people coming straight to us, probably because they’ve bookmarked us) than from any single referring site. Our top referring site, by the way, is theword.net (interesting; not even an eSword site!). Our sincerest thanks to Costas Sergiou for linking to us right on his webpage. The forum site from theword.net is our fifth largest referrer as well. Suffice it to say: we get a lot of TW traffic!

The most exciting statistic, for me anyway, is this number: 138. That is, DDT.com had visitors from 138 different countries in 2011. Included in that number are guests from The Philippines, India, Russia, South Korea, Malaysia, Kenya, Indonesia, China, Nigeria, Egypt, Japan, Ukraine, United Arab Emirates, Israel, Vietnam, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Pakistan, Oman, Kuwait, Ivory Coast, Cambodia, Madagascar, and Mongolia. Some of these countries are closed to the gospel; most of these countries have very little Christian light; and all of them are in desperate need of the saving Gospel of Jesus Christ. I praise the Lord for this ministry He has allowed me to have.

Module Stats

2011 started with DDT being the only eSword site that continually added and updated modules. In fact, since DDT went online in May of 2010, we had been one of only two sites that regularly added modules (and the other site didn’t add very many). So, rather than counting “modules made,” I counted “modules made and linked to.” At that time, finding a good module on the internet was harder that building one!

In June, 2011, BibleSupport.com came online - and with it, dozens of conservative modules that were brand new. Since June, they’ve added dozens and dozens more new, conservative & evangelical modules. Add to that the fact that David Cox started posting new eSword modules for the first time (basically) since 2009, and suddenly DDT wasn’t the only game in town anymore. (By the way - if you think that makes me sad, you are oh! so wrong!)

So, in 2011, I can’t tell you how many modules OMLB was responsible for building; but I can tell you how many modules we’ve built & linked to. Ready....? 280! That is so very exciting! DDT now links to a conservative library of 826 titles! (Most, but not all of those titles are available for both eSword and theWord.) A “guestimate” equivalent would be a real-world library of 1,100+ volumes. When I still used books, this was the size of my real world theological library. And as for the quality of content, let me tell you this: the DDT digital library quality surpasses what my real world theological library was. Again, I praise the Lord for allowing me to be involved with this ministry.

Looking Forward

Internetsabermetricians (that’s not a word; I just made it up. I’ve been reading “hot stove league” baseball blogs! Consider it a DDT trademarked term.) tell us that content on the web doubles about every 18 months. I can tell you that the size of my digital library has done that. From the time that DDT went online in May, 2010, to December 31, 2011, is just about 18 months. And my library more than doubled in that span. And it’s not just adding modules for the sake of numbers. (I am not a module collector. To the contrary, I’m rather choosey as to what I put in the DDT.com elibrary.) The modules that I’ve built/added to my collection these last eighteen months are fabulous! Some of them are absolute classics, and I would gladly have paid for them had they been offered as premium modules. But the Lord has provided these modules for free. Yeehaw!

That leaves me wondering, and with great anticipation, what does the next eighteen months have in store? In order for the number of resources to double again, the number of resource builders will have to double. In fact, the number will have to more than double due to attrition. Could God use you in the ministry of increasing the international eS/TW research library?

I look forward to continuing to build eS/TW modules; scouring the internet for the best of new and old modules to link to; and encouraging others to get involved in spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ via module building. If you’re interested in getting involved, let me know.
